Getting around New York City
Taxis are plentiful in NYC. The standard taxi city rate is $2.50 upon entry and $0.40 for each additional unit where a unit is either 1/5 of a mile, or 60 seconds of waiting time. More information on the Metered Rate of Fare as well as the Flat Fare from John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport is available here.
The subway is perhaps the most efficient form of transportation in NYC, and the Metrocard is the most convenient form of payment. The Metrocard can be purchased in any subway station and allows transferring from subway to bus. Maps of the subway and bus routers are available online from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
Visa Information
The sites http://www.unitedstatesvisas.gov & http://travel.state.gov have information about obtaining a visa for those traveling to the United States. Both sites have links to websites for U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide. The embassy and consulate websites have very helpful information about procedures, timelines, communities served, required documentation, and fees.
International registrants should be particularly aware and careful about visa requirements, and should plan travel well in advance. All visa inquiries must be handled by ACM HQ. Please send your request for a letter in support of a visa application to [email protected] include your name, mailing address, and fax number, as well as the name of the conference you are attending. (Authors of papers/posters should also include the title). Please note that ACM does not issue formal "letters of invitation" to any of its conferences.
